Virtual CFO reports: common questions

What reports does a virtual CFO give a small business?

The core set is a 13-week cash forecast, a monthly profit and loss against last year and budget, receivables and payables aging, a tax set-aside tracker, and a short KPI dashboard for your industry. Most owners also want a profit-to-cash bridge, a year-end tax projection and a salary and dividend plan. Each report ends with the three things to do next.

What is a 13-week cash flow forecast?

It lists the cash expected in and out of your business for each of the next 13 weeks: sales collections, payroll, rent, HST, loan payments and tax instalments. It shows a cash shortfall weeks before it happens, while you can still move a payment, chase a customer or arrange credit.

How often will I get CFO reports?

Typically a one-page weekly flash every Monday, a monthly report after the books close, a quarterly review call and year-end planning before 31 December. We agree the rhythm in writing before work starts.

Do I need to change my bookkeeping software?

No. We work from your existing books, for example QuickBooks Online or Xero, or we keep the books for you so the reports arrive on time.

Are CFO reports useful for doctors and dentists?

Yes. Incorporated doctors and dentists get billings and collections against last year, overhead, rejected or unpaid claims, money building up in the corporation, the $50,000 investment income limit and a salary and dividend plan before 31 December.

Do you work with businesses in Toronto, Mississauga and Oakville?

Yes. Our office is at 181 Queen St E in Brampton, and we meet clients across Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Vaughan and the GTA in person or on Microsoft Teams. Reports arrive by email and a shared folder.

How much does a virtual CFO cost?

It depends on how many transactions you have and how often you want reports. We quote in writing before any work starts.

Want this for your business?

Bring your last year-end statements. We'll show you what your weekly and monthly reports would track, and what we'd look at first.

The businesses and numbers on this page are made up to show the report format. They are not real clients and are not a forecast of your results. General information, not individualized accounting or tax advice. See also Virtual CFO advisory and corporate restructuring.
